WHS&E and Compliance Business Partner-Construction


 

Mentool Australia, located in Burton SA, is a construction focused business within the broader Northeast Auto Group. We deliver specialised construction services and projects and are seeking an experienced WHS and Compliance Business Partner to take full ownership of safety and compliance across the business.

This is a senior, hands-on role suited to someone with strong construction industry experience who enjoys being embedded in operations, building practical safety systems, and working closely with leaders and site teams.

About the role

As the dedicated WHS and Compliance professional for Mentool Australia, you will be responsible for end-to-end management of workplace health and safety, environmental obligations, and compliance across all construction activities. You will partner closely with operational leaders to drive a strong safety culture while ensuring legislative and regulatory compliance.

This is a highly hands on role. You will be on site regularly, actively involved in managing safety controls and taking action where required. If an exclusion zone is needed, you will be expected to implement and manage it. This role includes regular site engagement and intra and interstate travel to support projects and teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Own and manage all WHS and compliance functions for Mentool Australia
  • Provide practical, hands on WHS advice across construction sites, projects, and offices
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Construction Safety Management Plans including SWMS
  • Develop, implement, and maintain WHS policies, procedures, and systems aligned to construction legislation and standards
  • Ensure compliance with WHS, environmental, and contractor management requirements
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments
  • Actively manage site controls including exclusion zones and high-risk activities
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazards and implement corrective actions
  • Manage safety reporting, registers, and documentation
  • Support and coach leaders, supervisors, and workers on WHS responsibilities
  • Lead toolbox talks, safety training, and compliance initiatives
  • Liaise with regulators, insurers, and external stakeholders as required
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of safety systems across the wider group where relevant

About you

You are an experienced WHS professional with a strong background in construction environments. You are confident operating autonomously, influencing leaders, and translating legislation into practical, workable solutions. You are comfortable being on site, getting involved, and taking ownership of safety outcomes.

Essential requirements

  • Relevant WHS qualifications
  • Demonstrated WHS experience within the construction industry
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, codes of practice, and compliance obligations
  • Experience developing Construction Safety Management Plans and SWMS
  • Experience conducting site audits, investigations, and risk assessments
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage site based teams and leadership
  • Willingness and ability to travel intra and interstate as required
  • Valid driver’s licence
