Interstate Driver- BCH SA
Big Chief Hire is looking for an experienced Interstate Driver to join our team at our Burton Head Office. This is a full-time opportunity for an experienced MC driver who is confident travelling long distances and transporting vehicles, heavy machinery and oversized freight across Australia.
About the Role
As an Interstate Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transport of vehicles, plant, machinery and heavy haulage freight across interstate routes. You’ll work across a mix of in-gauge and over-dimensional freight, ensuring every load is transported safely, securely and in line with all relevant regulations and travel conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport vehicles, heavy machinery, plant and other freight across interstate routes.
- Operate Road Trains and manage long-distance interstate trips.
- Transport both over-dimensional and in-gauge freight.
- Safely load, unload and secure freight using correct load restraint procedures.
- Safely operate mobile plant for loading and unloading where required.
- Comply with HVNL, NHVR regulations, road laws, OSOM permits, mass and dimension requirements and applicable travel conditions.
- Follow Chain of Responsibility (COR) requirements and company procedures.
- Conduct daily pre-start checks and ensure vehicles and equipment remain safe and roadworthy.
- Manage fatigue in accordance with fatigue management requirements.
- Complete all required transport documentation and records.
About You
- Current MC licence – minimum 3 years’ experience.
- Proven Road Train experience.
- Previous experience transporting heavy vehicles, machinery and freight interstate.
- Float experience highly regarded.
- Proven experience with both over-dimensional and in-gauge freight.
- Strong understanding of NHVR regulations, Chain of Responsibility and load restraint requirements.
- Ability to safely operate mobile plant for loading and unloading.
- Strong understanding of fatigue management and interstate driving requirements.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical.
- Reliable, safety-focused and comfortable working independently.
- Strong communication skills and a professional approach to customer service and freight delivery.
