About the Role

As a Heavy Haulage Driver with Big Chief Hire, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transport of trucks, plant machinery, and a range of oversized equipment across South Australia. You will play a key role in ensuring freight is delivered on time all whilst ensuring compliance with NHVR regulations and Chain of Responsibility (COR) requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely load, unload, and transport heavy machinery and oversized freight, including earthmoving equipment
  • Operate in full compliance with NHVR Heavy Vehicle National Law and Chain of Responsibility obligations at all times
  • Conduct thorough daily pre-start checks and ensure vehicles and equipment are roadworthy
  • Manage fatigue in accordance with fatigue management regulations and company policy
  • Secure loads correctly using approved restraint methods and procedures
  • Maintain accurate records and complete required documentation as required
  • Work safely across metro Adelaide and regional South Australian locations

 

About You

  • Current HC or MC licence with a minimum of 2 years’ heavy vehicle driving experience
  • Shift and load ticket or VOC
  • Proven experience in heavy haulage, including loading and unloading plant and machinery
  • Low loader experience (highly regarded)
  • Strong understanding of NHVR regulations and Chain of Responsibility requirements
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and hold a current Fit to Drive assessment
  • Strong safety focus with a clean and reliable driving history
  • Confident working independently and making safe operational decisions
  • Ability to perform in high-pressure and demanding environments
  • Familiarity with Adelaide Metro and regional South Australia (desirable)
